One question often asked is “What is the difference between ‘psychic’ and ‘medium’?”
In our opinion, all mediums are psychics, but not all psychics are mediums. Besides being a medium, a psychic could also be s channel or have any number of other psychic powers. These powers may include clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairtangency, clairalience, clairgustance, clairsentience, and claircognizance, any of which may or may not be paired with mediumship or channeling.
A medium is a specific type of psychic: someone who can communicate with entities that are beyond normal human physical perception. Usually, this is communicating with the spirits of the dead. It can, however, also be communication with angels, spirits, or other entities. Mediumship is usually coupled with clairaudience and may be paired with other powers as well.
What this means is that mediums will usually hear entities and may often see them or otherwise sense their presence. Mediums often have some psychic sense, other than hearing, that alerts them to the presence of spirits or other entities. Sometimes this is a psychical sensation like chills or tingling.
Many people believe mediumship is an all-or-nothing ability; that you either can communicate with entities or you can’t. Others believe this is a skill that can be learned. We believe that it is a sense that can be honed, but some people simply don’t have this sense in the same way that some people are blind or deaf.
If you lack this sense, you will never be a medium, but this doesn’t prevent you from honing other psychic senses. But don’t think that just because you can’t sense spirits right now that you lack the ability. Often you must practice before this skill can truly show itself.
What is the difference between “medium” and “channel”?
The difference between “medium” and “channel” is similar to the difference between “psychic” and “medium”. Channeling, like mediumship, involves communicating with entities not normally perceived. A channel is partially or completely taken over by an entity. The entity will speak and act through the channel, often without the channel remembering anything the entity does or says. Channels will often lack other psychic senses, or at least will not have developed those senses.
Channeling and mediumship are closely related. The difference between them is that mediums communicate with entities, while channels allow themselves to be controlled by the entities. It is possible, though rare, for someone to be both a channel and a medium. Even those who are both channels and mediums will often focus almost exclusively on one or the other.
How Mediums Work
Many people go to a psychic hoping to connect with the spirits of people who have passed on. While mediums may be able to do this, depending on whether the spirit has remained on this plane, few psychics have the ability to simply choose who they connect with. Many mediums have a guiding spirit that assists them with connecting to other spirits.
